Essen Jewish Synagogue & Dusseldorf, Germany Jazz fest!

By Nicole Brewer

Hello GTs! I hope the start of summer has been treating you right where ever you are across the globe at the moment. I’m in countdown to the final weeks here in Germany before the big trot to South Africa in July.  Many of my classmates have already trotted on to their next destinations and I’m enjoying some time with the remaining NOHA students before we all continue on our journeys of internships, research and working on our MA thesis.  This weekend has been filled with great moments, from trotting over by train to Essen for a short stopover and taking in the beauty of the stunning Jewish synagogue there, to relaxing and enjoying summer sun rays in Dusseldorf at the annual Jazz Rally!

Some of the artist that were in tow for the festival included the infamous jazz group Incognito and others from around the globe. The weekend pass (or button) to enter all of the events totaled forty Euros. Nonetheless, as a graduate student, I opted for the free outdoor sessions that were playing around the city which was still fabulous.  It was great to see so many from all over enjoy the hottest day thus far in Germany dining, wining and of course drinking German beer.  Take a peek at the gallery below GTs of fun in Essen & Dusseldorf. Enjoy.

Essen, Germany Synagogue.
Can you spot the famous Jewish people?
Loved this clock!

This is how Germans get down on a Saturday to celebrate bdays and bachelor parties :-). Super Mario was out as well lol.
Fun times in Dusseldorf with classmates!
Live, Free Jazz.
A famous European game discovered called Petanque. A big competition was in Dusseldorf this weekend.

Yes,Germany has been fab! I’m sort of sad that time is winding down so quickly…but I’m sure South Africa won’t disappoint ;-).
