Bahrain Tour Guides Review

By: Chantal Blake

I know travelers who are sorely turned off by tour guides. They are not interested in the major attractions and Big Bus tours, but prefer to explore a landscape on their own. As much as I love the freedom to create an itinerary centered around my personal interests, guides come in handy for short-term visits where the time to meander and discover is limited. In my recent jaunt to Bahrain, I only had 30 hours in the country. Yes, it’s a tiny island nation, but once you factor in transportation, eating, and sleeping, time becomes even scarcer. Thankfully, Bahrain Tour Guides was available to work with my tight schedule and provide a culturally enriching experience that even the kids enjoyed.

We were personally received by Bader, the owner of Bahrain Tour Guides. Though retired from his past career, Bader welcomes visitors to his homeland out of love and hospitality and it shows. After an efficient airport pick-up, our first stop was undoubtedly a favorite for us all—al Muharraq. Our guide’s hometown happens to be the cultural center of the country. Preserved architecture, handcrafts, and historical traditions abound in the narrow roads winding around town.

The old town was a stark contrast to Amwaj Islands, a modern freehold development seated on man-made islands.

Passing through the city, we saw the Bahrain Trade Centre building identified by its central wind turbine.

Our 4-hour walking and driving tour ended at the Bahrain National Museum which filled in the other historical aspects of the country that time didn’t allow us to see firsthand.

In addition to prioritizing sights of cultural significance, Bahrain Tour Guides were flexible and accommodating to the little ones in tow. We made ample stops for water and local snacks, our favorite being the famed Showaiter Rose Halwa.

Our certified guide was not only well-versed in Bahraini history but also spoke in flawlessly clear English. His multi-lingual team can host guests in a variety of languages as well.

Overall, our tour was personalized and fascinating. We definitely left Bahrain with more than a few reasons to return.
